Maltese veterans MartYrium join SinFest Metal Festival 2018’s ever growing lineup.

MartYriuM was formed by Count Mortem in 1999 who conveyed his ideas into a mix of black/death metal riffs. Alongside Úmarth who contributed a deluge of sinister orchestrations focused on bringing the much desired dark atmospheric tone.

With Sherath’s barrage of melodic riffs, Sandmist’s substratum bass-tunes and Obscure’s diabolical growls Martyrium breeds a particular sound that makes their crowd conceive disquieting notions. Portraying the image of the modern metal Subculture, MartYriuM appear on stage behind pale corpse-paint as a female fronted band infusing an ominous mood.

In the year 2000 MartYriuM bestowed an arsenal of authentic tracks at a local venue, introducing the black metal genre to the Maltese metal scene, summoning a captivating response for it’s controversiality. The pursuing year the first album was recorded in Temple Studios, entitled ‘Withering In Voluptuous Embrace’. The release consisted of highly dense and multilayered symphonic black metal, moving from morbid ambiances to vitriolic, violent elements.

Aspired to get recognition abroad, the band approached foreign promoters presenting their material which attracted the South American label ‘American Line Productions’. Within a concise time extent, they developed and sold a sufficient number of MartYriuM CDs amongst their batch of followers. Thus American Line Productions decided to open a new label ‘Witchcraft records’ pioneered by MartYriuM, that concentrated more on Extreme metal bands. Manifesting their presence to magazines such as ‘Displeased’ , ‘Nuclear Blast’ and others.

Amid the year 2004, a French promoter set up the bands first tour, ranging from ‘Negasonic Music Club’ in Belgium, Luxemburg and ending their odyssey in Northern France, sharing the stage with Morrigu, Earaction and other supporting bands. The positive feedback from the throng of fiends concluded the first tour a success.
The exceeding gigs included the Greek legends ‘Rotting Christ’ as well as the brutal German death metal band ‘Purgatory’.

By summer’s end of the year 2005 MartYriuM experienced another tour in central Europe, welcomed with even more enthusiasm than the previous year, they celebrated the second assault entitled ‘Carnage Lit By Darkness’. This time approaching a more redolent, belligerent barrage of sound. The MartYriuM legion commenced from Germany, re-infesting France, followed by Italy and ending the carnage in ‘Club Dynamo’ in Switzerland alongside ‘Eluveitie’ , ‘Black Messiah’ , ‘Daargesin’ , ‘Cruachan’ and ‘Ivenberg’.

The year 2010 endured the unleash of MartYriuM’s third opus ‘ Awakening The Ancient’ which continued to emblaze their trail of desecrated conventions into the orifice of society to an extent that the track ‘Temple Of The Unknown Knowledge’ was featured on the Valletta 2018 video, commissioned by the Valletta 2018 Foundation, representing the Maltese metal scene in the European Capital of Culture(ECoC).

2013 commenced with the realease of MartYriuM`s first full length video`Anpu Xent Neter Het`sponsored by Diffused Productions.

2014 – The ensuing events that followed included Local appearances in major events as well as Italy and later on Czech and Slovak tours sponsored by Blackcloud Productions.

2015 – MartYriuM were busy with the recording, mixing and mastering of the 4th full length album “Destiny Wore a Bondage Mask” at Spine Splitter Studio (Malta) and Tower Studio with Brett Caldas-Lima (France). This left little time for live shows, MartYriuM participated in a few local acts and supported the masters of horror metal Cadaveria in Milan this year.

2016 – The band signed with Art Gates Records and their 4th full-length album “Destiny Wore A Bondage Mask” was released in March as well as second music video “NECROPENDULUM” , filmed and produced by local horror film maker Patrick Vella and Frank Psaila.

Also clean vocalist Pandemonia joined the unholy alliance on stage for the upcoming shows, enhancing the bands theatrical performance!

German Thrash Cultists – ‘Necronomicon’ Headlining Day 1 of SinFest Metal Festival 2018

NECRONOMICON…the Thrash Cult One moment that will undoubtedly go down in the annals of Thrash Metal history occurred in Germany August of 1984 when four young men, Freddy, Lars Honeck, Jürgen Weltin (Jogi) and Axel, decided to launch what was to become the countries’ cult Thrash Metal Band – NECRONOMICON. Recognising the urban character and punk roots that made the band so original, fans and media alike responded enthusiastically to the debut album “Necronomicon”, which caught the attention of the Thrash Metal scene, and garnered not only praise for the band, but also created the solid foundations of a fan base that has remained with the band throughout the years.

NECRONOMICON’s second album, “Apocalyptic Nightmare” was released 1987 and interest in the band continued to grow significantly worldwide, with South America, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia becoming strongholds. The hit singles, “Magic Forest”, “Dark Land” and “Possessed by Evil” have become Thrash Metal classics and taken on cult status. The legendary album, “Escalation”, followed, climbing to the Top 30 in the Rock Charts in Greece, but NECRONOMICON’s future was not to be plain sailing.

Gama Records’ lack of support and inconsistencies caused many problems, and the band was forced to go through a long and expensive court case in order to regain ownership of its own name. On top of this, co-founders Jogi, Lala and Axel were unable to continue with the band through either health or personal reasons leaving Freddy as the only original member, and he made NECRONOMICON his life’s purpose and passion.

In 1993, “Screams” was released, but NECRONOMICON was dealt yet another body blow, this time losing all their equipment when the rehearsal room burned to the ground. To make matters worse, the new label disappeared shortly after releasing the album, and the band was once again cheated..

But NECRONOMICON’s determination pushed the band forward and after the demo “Possessed Again!” came the highly acclaimed fifth album, “Construction of Evil”, in 2004. The outstanding reviews were a soothing balm on the band’s wounds as they watched it rise to Number 6 in the Spanish charts. The fans went wild and begged for more. Revenge of the Beast appeared in 2007 and for the first time in the band’s history NECRONOMICON signed with a foreign label. With good reviews and media interest, the band was lifted “out of the shadow” of the great Thrashers, making it into the top 20 of several Rock Charts and going on to capture many new hearts whilst on tour in Europe and Russia.

December 2010, Freddy had been busy writing new songs for the highly anticipated new album, “Invictus”. With “Invictus”, NECRONOMICON’s individuality and skill in terms of song writing goes from strength to strength, exceeding all expectations with a full sound and terrific production. The news is generating a lot of interest, expectations are high and they got the perfect label in massacre records.

NECRONOMICON has never been stronger!

‘Hecate Enthroned’ + ‘Sarah Jezebel Deva’ (ex- Cradle of Filth) to headline the 3rd day of SinFest Metal Festival 2018

Hecate Enthroned emerged as one of the most intense bands to come out of the Black Death Metal scene. Dedicated to delivering their own brand of truly evil metal with little regard to politics or the trends of popular demand.

In 1995, The now legendary demo ‘AN ODE FOR A HAUNTED WOOD’ was recorded in The Academy Studios – Yorkshire under producer Mags and was quickly spread throughout the burgeoning underground scene. This release saw the start of the blackened years and the video ‘AN ODE FOR A HAUNTED WOOD’ accompanied the release on MTV being one of the first Extreme Black Metal bands to be featured on this channel.

Fast forward 22 years and 5 albums later, a few line-up changes and with their new vocalist Joe Stamps are still packing shows and delivering brutal sets, such as an appearance on London’s Incineration Festival 2016, which cemented the band as the premier UK Black Metal act delivering high paced intensity and quality. With a new album waiting release in the studio and more festivals and tours in the offering alongside collaborations with Sarah Jezebel Deva (ex-Cradle of Filth female vocalist), fans of true metal have a lot to look forward to.
