About The Ex-Military Prison, Corradino
The Corradino naval and military prison, located on Corradino Hill in Paola was constructed in 1866, originally to house naval prisoners. It was transferred to the army in 1870 and since then has been known as the Corradino Military Prison. On many common maps (inc. Google Maps), it is sometimes referred to as “Sergeant’s Mess”.
The prison is set to a cruciform plan; originally it was however designed as a two-wing block perpendicular to the administration block. It is similar in design to London’s Pentonville prison, constructed by Sir Charles Barry with the main difference being the plan of the structure and the use of limestone as compared to the use of brick in Britain.
This historical place will be transformed into the festival grounds with and open-air stage area, camping area with indoor showers, an open-air beer garden as well as the prison cells themselves will be converted to merch. shops by the participating bands.
